The Writer

Sarah Woods drives a VW Sharan. She is a playwright often working in the fields of climate change and global justice and will be responsible for the script and narrative development of My Last Car. Sarah has written for BBC radio and television, the RSC, Cardboard Citizens, the Royal Opera house, Hampstead Theatre, Soho Theatre, Birmingham Repertory Theatre and the Northampton Royal and Derngate. Sarah’s version of FANTASTIC MR FOX (Little Angel Theatre) is currently touring London venues. Sarah is a passionate mentor and educator, working to champion youth and their place as active citizens. She is one of Wales’ Green Heroes for 2010, awarded to individuals for making Wales a more sustainable place to live.

The Digital Artist
Shanaz Gulzar drives a special edition Toyota Corolla. She is a film and digital artist with a growing international and national reputation. She designed the digital content of My Last Car.  Her work explores interactions between new technologies and film, place and identity and the lived experience. Clients include: Chol Theatre, Bite The Mango Film Festival, Illuminate, Pillars of Light, Bradford Big Screen Installation, Yorkshire Film Archive, Enchanted Parks Gateshead, Moti Roti, Bradford City Parks and Creative Partnerships. Shanaz is an artist with Meander, a Chrysalis Arts Slow Art commission. She is a creative coach and mentor at Challenge College, Bradford and for CIDA Yorkshire.

The Director
Alan Dix drives a Rover 45 Diesel Classic. He set up 509 Arts in 1994 and directs My Last Car. He is a theatre director, producer and cultural consultant and prior to 509 Arts, was Associate Director at Major Road Theatre Company. Throughout the 80’s and 90’s he worked created many memorable touring theatre and site specific events across the UK and abroad. 509 Arts has worked with a wide range of public sector bodies and arts organisations to develop projects and programmes of many kinds including the £2m millennium programme in Greenwich and the participation programme for the opening of the St Pancreas Eurostar Terminal. Alan is a Board member of West Yorkshire Playhouse and Greenwich Theatre and Chair of Strange Cargo.

Design and Build
Bryan Tweddle (VW Transporter, Diesel) and Steve Gumbley (Peugeot 406 Diesel) take the project from concept through to full design and build. Bryan and Steve have a long history of design and making of innovative performance pieces in unusual places and spaces. They have worked for Welfare State International, IOU Theatre, Whalley Range All Stars, Royal Festival Hall, Streets of Manchester, ENO, Luxembourg Children’s Workshop, Avanti Display and many more. They work collaboratively with the My Last Car team to deliver a highly personalised and aesthetically inspiring installation that delight, amaze and intrigue in equal measure.

Concept Development
Gerry Pilgrim does not own a car. She is an acclaimed installation artist and worked with the team on the early conceptual development of My Last Car.
